[Soft Skills, Big Feels] Beta begins! 🦇
Published 27 days ago • 2 min read
Yes, the subject line is both a Batman reference and a way to welcome spooky season! This community has been growing in such exciting ways lately and now we're stepping into our beta phase and I’m so glad you’re here to be part of it all! Let's get into some updates.

1. Beta Begins!
I can't believe it's been 3 months! The party started as invite only, now with 13 members. We've had 12 coworking days, 8 game days, 3 campfires, 4 mixers, and 4 book club meetings.
Did you know we started a book club, the Slow Page Society? Our first book was fiction, Our Hideous Progeny. We read it slowly, over 2 months, and invited both readers and anyone interested to join us and discuss the themes of the book. It was great! And it was fun to fully finish a book - my second of the year! An achievement for me.
We'll be taking a 1 month break from book club while we figure out our next read.
Our beta runs from October to December and we've got some fun things planned! Including our first in person event!

Live in Michigan or the midwest? Interested in joining us for the beta? Use code BETABUDS for 40% your first 3 months. Look around, meet some folks, join some of our events. If after 14 days, it doesn't feel like a good fit, I'll refund you, no problem!
It's been a while but I'm speaking at Techqueria's digital summit! An online conference featuring Latine voices in tech.
It's totally free and the schedule is up! Check it out and see if there's anything of interest.
I'll be running a mini-workshop Thursday, Oct 2nd, 2pm Eastern on how we can use play to build community. It'll be a quick 45 minutes of reflection on what play means to us and ideas you can take back to your team.
There are over 1,000 sign-ups for the conference so far! I'm hoping Miro can keep up with us!
We'll be working on miro! Let's see what this puppy can do...

3. Rest as rebellion
Our last campfire was on rest as rebellion. I was thrilled to have our guest speaker, Erik Anderson, LCSW, join us for a laid back conversation on the history of rest, why it matters, and how to rest more.
Just a few months back, we talked about tiny acts of rebellion. That was about saying no and pushing back. This was about saying yes and making space.
It was a tough conversation. We ended by thinking about what could be a 15% solution for each of us to get more rest into our days.
The party had some great insights and Erik really helped us dig into why it's so hard for us sometimes to just take a break.
I summed up our insights into a few slides. Check them out on LinkedIn.

4. Around the web
This month, a couple resources on working in tech and a pretty cool thing.

Accessible UX Research
A book by Michele Williams, accessibility expert and consultant. I had the chance to work with Michelle and there's no doubt in my mind this will be a cornerstone book for researchers.
Thanks for tuning in! Question for me? Something you want to chat about in this edition of the newsletter? Hit reply! Replies go straight to me, Lissy.

It’s been a busy month! July kicked off the first phase of The Party’s alpha, and we welcomed a few folks into our community of care experiment. As a result, I’ve been steeped in all things community, thinking about what makes one, what keeps it going, and what gets in the way. Hey y'all! This month, I want to talk to you about what I've been seeing on the internet. There's a lot happening in technology today, and many folks in tech have been writing some wonderfully reflective pieces. So I've split up all the best links into sections where I expand on that topic a bit in my own words before dropping you into the things I've found this month. Also in this newsletter - an update on The Party! In this month's newsletter The Party Alpha launches this month! Curiosity,...
